This Year's Model Updates:

Chevy's personal-luxury coupe receives only minor changes for 2002. LATCH child safety-seat anchors, dual-zone air conditioning and three-point seatbelts for rear passengers are now standard on all models. Bright Red and Medium Green Pearl replace Torch Red and Dark Jade Green as exterior color options.

Pros:
  • Large interior, low sticker price, strong V6 in SS models.
Cons:
  • Front-wheel-drive platform, no passenger side-impact airbag, cheap interior bits.

  • WET ROADS - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

The performance of this vechicle is terrible on wet roads I wrecked mine while doing 45mph. Seats need more padding. Back seats need more leg room.I hate the milage I get 21mpg. This car use to be fun driving, but now I am afraid of it since hydroplaning across 4 lanes of traffic. The exterior is good looking but could use a few improvements. The build of the car is very sturdy after wrecking the only injuries I had was a cut on my finger. As far as reliability, this car has been hard to handle on wet roads since I purchased it. I owned a 2001 SS before the 2002 and never had this problem.

I found this car while looking for a Mustang. I probably should have kept looking because the performance, although good for a V6, just isnt what I really was looking for. Its not a bad car at all though, well appointed, plenty of room and quite reliable to date. Looks great from the back and side and since the popularity of coupes is waning, you dont see many of them on the street. The MC handles competently and pulls through corners well, although it certainly wouldnt be at home on an autocross course. If youre looking for a sporty looking car that wont set you back a ton of money with reasonable insurance rates, you couldnt do much better.

  • Disappointed for many reasons - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This was my first brand new car ever! and I have some doubts if I will ever buy a Chevy product again. At 6000 miles the belts had to be replaced. At 12000 miles the steering shaft cracked and had to be replaced. by 16000 miles the water pump along with rotors/calipers had to be replaced. Around 22,000 miles it was the rotors again. 28,000 miles it was rotors/calipers and the A.B.S modules again. The car has 40,000 miles on it and rotors again. i live in chicago and im sure some it has to be city driving, but i really dont abuse this car at all. The interior design has improved over the previous model but mechanical it much worse.

  • Great Car! - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I love this car. It could use a little more power but Ill say that about anything. The interior is alright although the center console has a flimsy top. Otherwise this car is definitely fun to drive and definitely looks good!

  • A Kick To Drive - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I bought my Monte Carlo having never owned a GM product. I must say that I am VERY pleased. The performance is great even though its not an SS, the fuel economy is awesome for the 3.4L V- 6. I had to put a set of spark plugs in it to correct hesitation. Otherwise, very solid car. I put my own after market stereo in, so if youre wanting to do that, be aware that the wiring adapter was $80. Very nice car, i feel very safe and it is a very fun car to drive. hndles very well around corners at high speeds. Would buy again, and again, and again, and again.

  • Cars that last - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I bought my 02 MC with 11,000 miles on it in April of 2002. Since that time I have put on 318,000 on my own, putting my mileage at 328,000. The car looks and feels almost like it did when I bought it. I would buy another in a heartbeat!

  • GREAT CAR!! - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

bought a dark blue 02 monte SS in august. The car is great. I was never a fan of chevy interior, but this time they got it right. The interior is perfect. The drivetrain is great, both gas mileage and power are up there. Also, the car does very well in the snow (traction control). It is built well, the doors are thick (unlike the tin doors on the imports) and it is very save (5 star crash rating)

  • Great except for the front brakes - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

  • Its pretty cool. - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

I went to look at one of these while scoping out a new family car. The interior is huge, theres only three of us and we all fit fine. Its comfy. My car has every option, minus the heated seats. I like it. Gas mileage is fabulous, I have a 64 mile commute and I get 27 without even trying. Handling is good for a large car - lets face it - this is not a small car, naturally it is not going to handle like sports car. But, it goes where I point it and it stops well too. If you still want more remeber nobody said you cant add bigger rubber or modify the suspension!

  • Black is Beautiful - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    By -

I searched all over for this color and equipment. All black with every option except heated seats(Florida). The car is a real head turner and runs great but a super-charger would enhance the performance like my wifes Regal GS. The only drawback is the padding of the seats. My 57 year old posterior needs more cushion on the long haul so I bring my own home made one for the longer drive.
